It was a message that was dug into my mind loud and with crystal clarity. That the world I had now found myself had no place for someone like me. I just want to go back to being normal…I hate living like this. Victor and I headed over to the police station quick. He wouldnt talk to me at all on the way over, hell I doubt he even cared I was there. He tried to keep himself calm, but I could tell by he was pushing down some deep anger. If I was in his position, I dont think I would have been able to keep quite as restrained. At the station, Victor and I informed Eri and Jennifer about what happened. Leaving out the part where we met up with Lenae. The question had come up in my mind as to why Miranda would not just be able to teleport herself out of wherever she was being held captive. “You remember Lia? ” Eri asked, I nodded. “Her power was negated by water; similarly, all of our powers can be negated with the right knowledge. ” “Miranda always kept that information to herself. We all did if we could. Somehow, it seems that the twins found out about her weakness and used it against her. ” Jennifer added. “You know what it is, right Victor? ” “Of course…it isnt something that theyd be able to know. Far as I knew, Miranda never told anyone what her weakness was except for me. ” “Hes right…theres no way she would have let something like that be known to any of us. Even if she trusted us, Miranda was always wary when it came to discussing or using her powers. During that time, it wouldnt be out of question that either of them could have learned her weakness. ” “What reason would they have to tell Riley and Fife about it? ” Eri asked. “I dont know. They seemed to care a lot about us at the time. The two of them both left without telling us why. ” “The reason doesnt matter right now, all that matters is finding where they took her. You have to have something to go off of. ” Victor said. Jennifer shook her head. “If we did, dont you think we would have already made a move? Besides, how the hell could you have allowed this to happen anyway? Werent you with her? Something like this would have never happened if you did your job! ” Jennifer yelled. “Hey…Jennifer you dont have to be so…” Eri was cut off when Victor raised his hand in front of her. “Shes right…I made a mistake leaving her alone. Because of that, I will stop at nothing to find her. Even if I have to kill those two myself. ” This wasnt the chilled-out guy I had come to know. That part of him was nowhere to be seen. Victor had a look of deadly seriousness as he made direct eye contact with Jennifer. There was no hesitation in his voice. I never thought him capable of killing someone before, but seeing him like this, I realized how wrong I must have been. That expression…I could tell that he wasnt lying. “We have a problem! ” Reid burst into the room in a panic. “Ferdinand is dead! ” Ferdinand…he was one of the detectives on the case. To think that I had just been talking with him some hours earlier in the day and now he was dead. Ill go with you. ” I spoke up. “Kevin, what are you doing? Shouldnt you stay here? If you go out, they could…” Eri grasped onto my jacket sleeve. “I have an idea. Just…I just need you to trust me on this. ” I said, gently peeling Eris fingers off my sleeve. “Jennifer, I need you to let me borrow a Tigers Blood pill. ” “Why do you need that? ” Jennifer asked. “I want to try and get some information out of them, using their addiction against them would be the best way. ” I answered. “Its the only thing I can think might work. ” Sure enough, she let me take one of the pills. I wasnt very confident if my plan would end up yielding any results or not, but we were running out of time and getting pushed against a wall. I slipped the small bag with the pill into my pocket and went over to join Victor. “Kevin…Victor…” I heard Eri say as we were leaving the room. Turning around, I could see she was on the verge of tears. “Please stay safe. ” “Well be back, dont worry. “Yeah, itll be fine. ” I said, trying to reassure Eri. Even though on the inside, I could feel dread starting to fill my stomach. I followed Victor out to his truck, and we started driving towards Codas apartment building as fast as possible. While my main reason for accompanying Victor was to try and get some information from the cubs that we would inevitably run into once we got to our destination, there was another reason. It was to try and make sure he didnt lose himself to his anger. I could feel it exuding from him like an aura. If his transformation was like mine as he said, things could turn bad if he lost himself. Admittedly, there would have been little I could do to stop him if that happened. Even if that was the case, I couldnt in good conscience just let that happen. Another funny thing to think back on now. That stupid altruistic side of myself that did little but put Eri and me in more danger. Even though it causes so much trouble…I know Id regret not acting on it. I might be a monster, but its that sense of humanity that keeps me sane. The drive over there was quiet. While Victor did agree to let me come with, I couldnt really tell if he cared all that much. I wanted to ask him why he was so ready to go and help Coda, but I was unsure if I wanted to hear the answer. The way he was acting, while I understood why, still scared me a little. “You…you wont kill them, will you? ” I finally asked. “Why does that matter to you, long as one is alive we can learn where their hideout is. ” Victor replied. “But they dont have any control over what theyre doing. Maybe there is a way to turn them back to normal. ” “Thats wishful thinking Kevin. You cant keep thinking of them as people, theyre just puppets. How many lives are you willing to let them take and ruin just because maybe they can be helped? ” “I…” “Whoever these people used to be. Theyre long gone. “The way youre talking, youve seen this before, havent you? ” I asked. Victor sighed. “It was years ago. They did this same thing to people. The only difference was they were not using a drug then. The effects were the same, a person becomes a monster after being exposed to their magic. Theyre capable of doing horrible things, and they do it happily. ” “There has to be some way to reverse the effects, right? ” “Maybe…the only ones who know the answer to that are the ones behind this mess though. We dont know where they are, and even if we did, they wouldnt tell us anything. ” In truth, I didnt want to avoid killing people because I looked at it as the right thing to do. It was more to do with the fact that I didnt want to risk losing myself. At that time, I wasnt even thinking about the fact that killing was an inevitability. That when I did finally come across Riley and Fife that the only way this ends is with either them or Eri dying. Thats not how its supposed to work, is what Id tell myself. I held onto these notions that events had to play out a certain way because my mind just couldnt comprehend the alternatives. Thinking that I could play the hero and save people, that I could play out some childhood fantasy. I was naïve. When we took a turn onto the street where Codas apartment building was located, we were met with the visage of this horrible, brutal, vicious reality. Victor slammed on the brakes, the truck coming to a screeching halt. The street was littered with bodies, the cubs were dragging people out of the apartments as they kicked and screamed and were butchering them out in the open. Three cop cars were spread about the street, but it was clear that they did nothing to stem this absolute anarchy. People were being tossed from the fire escapes, their bodies breaking on the sidewalk. Others were being torn apart by cubs that were proceeding to feast on their organs and like rabid animals, cheering with excitement. Some were being dragged out and shoved into windowless white vans. My body started to shake as that dread I felt into the pit of my stomach morphed into unmitigated terror. This was impossible, a scene like this should never have been possible. How could this happen? My brain tried and failed over and over again to comprehend the display of bloody brutality unfolding right in front of my eyes. I couldnt believe it, it had to be fake all of it. I shook my head and looked down towards my feet. The laughter and screams interspersed with gunshots gouged their way through my ear canal. I prayed and begged for it to end. I couldnt have been on earth anymore. No, this was hell. “Kevin! ” I heard Victor yell. Suddenly the window next to me broke, and hands gripped onto me, dragging me through it. My body hit the pavement hard as a couple of cubs pulled me away from the truck. One of the cubs held me down while the other slammed his baseball bat into my stomach, cackling to themselves. This was just a bad dream, right? Any moment Id wake up in bed next to Eri. Another blow from the bat crushed my guts, causing me to retch and cough. Those red eyes looking down at me with ear to ear grins. Just a bad dream…it had to be. I watched the bat raise up into the air, ready to come crashing down on me again. Victor grabbed hold of the man before he swung down and delivered a punch across the mans jaw. He collapsed onto the ground behind me, and the other cub that was holding me down let go and charged at Victor, swinging at him wildly with a knife. Victor dodged each swing and kneed the cub in the stomach before slamming his elbow into the back of the cubs neck, causing the man to crumple to the ground, his face smashing against the concrete. Victor quickly picked me up off of the ground and took me behind a nearby car. “You need to snap out of it. Were here now. Lets do what we came to do. You need to head inside of the building and check the apartment. ” Victor said, placing his hand on my shoulder. It took me a few moments to process and bring myself back to reality. “What are you going to do? ” I asked. Victor pointed over to the pair of windowless vans. “He could be inside there. We also need to stop them from leaving with whoever they are trying to take. ” There were at least eight or nine cubs situated around the vans, they hadnt taken notice of us because of how engrossed into their self-indulgent violence they were. “Are you sure you want to handle them alone? ” I asked. “Dont worry about me, Ill be fine. You just move as fast as you can to the apartment. Now take it. ” Hesitantly, I took the gun from Victor. Victor peered around the car over at the group of cubs again. “When I go over there and they come at me, use that as a distraction to get inside the building without them noticing. Alright? ” I nodded my head and prepared to run inside. Seeing the carnage on the streets I could only hope that we hadnt shown up too late. Victor stood up and started to approach the group of cubs. Once they noticed him, a few of them immediately attacked him. Victor was able to easily evade the swings of their weapons, retaliating with punches and kicks. Only needing to land one as the blow was utterly devastating to whoever he hit. I had thought he would end up transforming, but for whatever reason, he held back from doing that. Judging from how effortlessly he was handling the cubs that were trying to kill him, it wasnt like his transformation even seemed needed. He was already a monster in just that human form. I sprinted towards Codas apartment building, rushing up the stairs and through the open doorway. The moment I passed through the door frame, I was stopped in my tracks. Standing just a few feet in front of me was one of the cubs. She had one hand grasping onto the hair of a battered, struggling young girl she was dragging down the stairs, and the other clutching onto a pistol. As the woman raised her pistol to aim at me, I found myself moving without even thinking about it. I lifted the gun in my hands and fired. The woman staggered down the stairs and fell in front of me. Blood trickled down from the bullet wound in the side of her skull as she looked up at me with unmoving eyes. My hands trembled as I looked down at the corpse that was staring back at me. I could feel the nausea growing and bile in my throat. Raising a hand to my mouth, I vomited through my fingers, causing a mess on the floor. I had killed someone, without the filter of the wolf. Even if they were trying to kill me and I had no other choice, I couldnt stop myself from shaking. Uncontrollable tears started streaming down my face. I forced myself to look away from the corpse. x.

Good remake from the soska sisters, but couldve been better.

This reimagining of the Cronenberg-Marilyn Chambers classic is actually quite a guilty treat on it's own and a surprise. It wraps all the themes and elements together of the source material and does it with flair. The lead actress was great in the role and paralleled the emotions of what you felt like while watching Marilyn Chambers in her original peril. The music and cinematography was better than expected. Though there were some moments of cheese I felt they fit with the theme well enough even going in to B-Movie SciFi realm a bit. Overall this film impressed me for the expectations I had and I find it may very well be the Soska sister's finest work to date.

Player never plays anything but Barbarian half-orc. Guess he found his calling. Makes insane baked potatoes with at least 20 different things you can add to them. Player that is, not Barbarian, he's fast but dumb as rocks. Accidental wound up in the dungeon while hunting. >Necromancer human. Now, all necromancers are edgey and death-loving right? This fucko named ALL her zombies, ALL the skeletons and AAAALLL summons. She read a whole book containing nothing but names and memorized all of them. You thought her summons had similar names? They Were ALL different. And want to know the best part? They were all cutesy names or butler names. depending on perceived gender. She had the most flowery sprouting personality out of all of us. Ended up in the dungeon after a ritual went wrong, she has been in the dungeon for the longest out of us all. >We're playing a dungeon crawler campaign. Or so we though. Anyway enough with the ranting let's begin. Be in a dingy dungeon. smells like poop. oh wait that's just one of the Necromancer's summons. I'm leading the spearhead with my two shields in tow. Necromancer and ranged skeletons in the middle cause she's squishy and barbarian watching our flanks. >Dungeon has been beating our asses. We are all paranoid, hence the well rehearsed formation. >DM says "As you move through the corridor. No doors in sight, no cover to hide in. you spot a light. SHIT, FIREBALL GET DOWN. i shout as i prepare to take the brunt of the attack raising my shields. We were used to these encounters by now. all of us having some amount of burn scars on our bodies. So, we're still alive" the Necromancer points out. No hurt, good" the barbarian replies. >I slowly part my shields enough to where i can see >"You see a feint light. Unlike torch flame this light isn't flickering. It's a mage-light. We have a mage on our hands, proceed carefully. i tell my party. Wot's a proceed. the Barbarian asks. >Necromancer replies with "Go" in a sad, tired voice >To which the Barbarian says "Oki-doki" And takes of like a comet hurdling towards the light. >fun fact, Barbarians can rage, giving them 3 attacks in our game. Attacks are also counted as actions giving the barbarian 3 actions per turn. Sprinting consumes all actions to get to a location as fast as possible. You also double your speed for every action you add exponentially in his case. (rocket bootsters) >Barbarians also have additional movement speed. making ours have 40 feet of movement per action. Doubled again since a haste affect was on him from a previous battle. >1 turn is 6 seconds. >He moves 640 feet in 6 seconds >He moves 72 mph or 116 km/h or 62 Knot for all them sea-folks out there. in 1 second. about as fast as a car is legally allowed to drive on a freeway with the max speed limit in any sane country. Fucki'n nyoaaooom. >I can't even react before i see the blur that is our Barbarian shoot off in to the unknown light. >We both start sprinting after him, as i ready our last healing potion. half-empty Minor healing since we burned through all our consumables and most spell slots on the previous battle. >Light becoming brighter as we run. Necromancer's summoned skeletons clattering behind us. >I raise my shields as we pierce the light at full speed. This is the end. As you pierce the light, your eyes having a hard time re-adjusting to it's brightness. you hear something you've longed to hear for a long time. Birds singing, water running. You feel the warmth of the Sun on your long since bleak colorless skin. You are standing in a field with a mountain behind you containing the dungeon. This is the end. Welcome. >After half-a year of sessions inside a bleak smelly dungeon. I actually cry a bit, we fucking did it. We survived on the skin of our teeth and often pure luck way too many times. Rationed out food and potions alike. I had gone days without sleep so our Necromancer could have a chance of getting some spell slots before we were attacked in our sleep. >Necromancer in tears both in-game and IRL. "We finally fucking did it. We're out" >I think of something. Something horrible. Strange un-flickering light. mages and spells being abundant. This might be an illusion. >I shout for the Necromancer to throw down an anti-magic hole. >She finishes the incantation and it appears. Sucking any nearby magic in to itself. You feel the gentle breeze get slightly disturbed. Some birds fly away at the sudden appearance of a totally black hole" >Holy fuck it's for real. At this point i burst in to tears. >after a celebratory pie made by our DM ⁽ᶦ ˡᵒᵛᵉ ʸᵒᵘ⁾ we continue. >We look for our resident rabid Barbarian. >We don't see him, but we do hear him. >Screaming at the top of his lungs. and suddenly the scream gets cut short. >Shit. >Run towards scream. We clear bushes, high grass and i even run over a tree before entering a thick forest. >See Barbarian covered in blood. >Not his blood. >Dead deer on ground. Barbarian is eating dear. Raw. >Both i and Necromancer are actually starving, having ran out of food ten days ago. >We ask Barbarian if he's willing to share. >Barbarian looks at us. Smiles a bloodied smile and makes room, he even leaves the best parts for us, which i then gave to the Necromancer that's been keeping us alive with revive spells and healing spells. >We don't even care about cooking it at this point, raw is good enough. Anything to satiate our burning hunger. >After consuming a whole deer all of us stuffed and happy as can be we look around for our next goal. Water. >I tell them i heard some water by the entrance. or rather exit? of the Dungeon. >I pack up the deer bones planning to use the entire animal for it's generous sacrifice. And because inside the dungeon i learned how important bones were as improvised tools, Lockpicks, Door-wedges, needles, and even food if we could make bone broth. Necromancer also used it for A LOT of rituals and incantations. >We head back. Takes longer than we thought. >About 10 minutes later we stop. still in a forest. The exit nowhere to be seen. >Roll for investigation. >Necromancer gets Nat 20. >The exit isn't there, no signs of it ever being there. no signs of a mountain ever being here or nearby. >I climb up a tree, Barbarian helps out >Barbarian practically throws me up half the tree with a wooosh. Impressive because i weigh 100kg more than him. >I get to the top and scout around. >The day is totally clear, The forest thinning out to the west. No signs of a mountain. at all. >No mountains in a 20km radius around us. There are some large hills but no signs of mountains. >I climb down >I mumble something about how much i hate illusion magic. just for the Necromancer to remind me. i threw down an anti-magic field. Whatever that dungeon was it was no illusion, and now it isn't physically here anymore" >Something that can move such a huge dungeon would be quite powerful. or a God even? >While i'm having an existential crisis the Necromancer picks flowers and makes a hat for our Barbarian. Barbarian knowing the importance of herbs and any vegetation since being in the Dungeon accepts it with a tear in his eye. Genuinely moved by the action. >We search for a stream of water and eventually find one as the forest thins out. >We drink till we almost burst and refill our waterskins. >Not thirsty, full belly and sunshine. Life is pretty fucking good. >Necromancer tells us to follow the stream downwards. Villages usually set up shop next to them she says while skipping down the river. >No better ideas so we follow her. >A long trek and most of the day later we see a smoke pillar, too big for a campfire but too small for a burning building. Must be a village bonfire. Whatever it was it wasn't close enough to the river for us to feel comfortable traveling at night. We would also spook the villagers being pretty monster-esque or creepy like a necromancer. >Set up camp, takes about 30 seconds and we have a fully decked out camp with skeleton-guards made from the deer bones i brought. Barbarian attaches bells to the skeletons as a warning system. >We decide to all sleep since to what we are used to it's practically safe sleeping in the forest out here. compared to the cramp danger-filled corridors of the Dungeon. >We get about 5 hours in to our slumber as we hear something attacking our skeletons or at least them moving around a lot. >We burst out of the crudely built tent. Both the skeletons were piles of bones now. Arrows, means we have an archer on our hands. Location unknown, making it hard for me to block the attacks. >We form a circle around necromancer using a tree as semi-cover. >Necromancer revives skeletons and make them search for the enemy or enemies. >Luckily our foes are dumb and we see a hail of arrows fly out from a bush killing the skeletons once again. >Barbarian goes full race-car and slams in to the bush spinning his axe around in the process. >Barbarian nearly kills our would-be Assassin Archer. >He pleads for mercy shouting that he and his group were trying to kill the undead advancing on the city. wait, did he say. City? >Apparently we almost killed a well-known archery master and his posse. >We ask for him to show us the city. >He agrees hesitantly. Noting me the towering giant of a man wearing heavy armor. Necromancer, no eyes, blood dripping from her tear ducts. But a pretty smile having pink lipstick and flawless teeth. Barbarians were pretty common so no reason for concern there. Or well, unusual concern. >We prepare to set in to civilization first time in. well, we have no clue. >Necromancer hides her face using an illusion. Turning her face pale, her eye holes in to bright blue eyeballs, long golden hair, small blush to her cheeks and red lips. >Archer and his boys react, quickly looking away. as if they were unsure what to say. >I put my helmet on so i just look like a huge-ass human. >Barbarian puts on a clean-ish loincloth. >Archer leads us to the City. >We turn many heads. Especially me and the Necromancer. >People begin to call the Necromancer "Freia" as they pass. Some wide eyed and some brought to tears. >Archer leads us to a church that commissioned the undead contract. Telling the head-priest >"We sort of did what the contract stated but we also found these. uhh, people? creatures? Entities! yeah let's call them Entities. Barbarian steps up picking his nose. "Oi, wot's your're heir doi'n" >Necromancer steps up "What he meant to say was. Hi, who are you. I speak his language you see" >I step up, floorboards almost snapping from my weight and black armor. (Fun fact i had no clue my armor was photo sensitive, it was grey in the dungeon but now turns darker the more light it's exposed too. Priest takes a good look at both of us. Especially the Necromancer. Fair lady, do you know true magic by chance. the priest asked. >Necromancer replied by summoning a re-occuring summon. Charles her zombie-butler. And no, you never get used to the smell or the alliterations. >We hear digging as Charles digs his way up. An arm bursting through the floorboards like if it was ripped right out of horror movie. >Archer steps back. Priest looks intrigued. Good golly gosh! This place isn't the terrifying tunnel totaling thousands of traps i'm used to find you in. Necromancer smiles, Hi Charles! Travel far. At this point the Priest is flipping through his Bible like a maniac. I didn't travel far, with my body Coming from the Comfortable Crypt Clearly Containing Committed Churchgoers! And my mind coming from your Imaginatively Impressive and Improved Incantations. Priest finds a picture, hazy but recognizable. >Necromancer accidentally turned herself in to a perfect replica of the Master of Magic. long thought to be a God by now. >Crazy thing being there were stories of her having a large black knight as a bodyguard. and a wise orc as a consultant. Crazy because our orc is far from wise. >Charles now looking at the priest asks "What Imaginary Image Is Incidentally Inspiring Incomplete Intentions. Priest too confused to answer Charles looks at the Necromancer for a translation. >Necromancer says. "Charles is asking why this image is here, also why it's untrue" while cuddling with Charles arm. >Priest asks how it would be untrue. >Necromancer decides to drop the illusion spell. Doesn't go away. Necromancer that used to have no eyes, pale skin and dark hair is now a beautufull young woman resembling an elf without the pointy ears. >I repeat what i stated previously "I hate illusion magic" >I take off my helmet to show the priest i was a Goliath. >Helmet won't come off. welded in place. >Our necromancer turned beautufull, i turned in to a walking piece of armor just like the story in his bible said. >We all looked at the Barbarian. The scripture said of a wise orc. >Barbarian started talking. Wot's you looki'n at. I pick up a small mirror and turns it around so our Barbarian can see his reflection. >Barbarian looks startled and runs out of the church. "Waaait for it" i say >The mirror shatters as a war-axe comes flying through the air smashing it in to a thousand pieces. The'yre's a Orcie ere! I smash. the Barbarian shouts from outside. >Still doesn't recognize himself in the mirror. >So the proficiency must be untrue! >Necromancer starts mumbling things in a strange language. >Nothing unusual about this >Another version of her appears >uhhhh, ok? You alright Necromancer. i ask her >Blood starts running from her eyes. weird fukin necromancer shit. I don't like that. >Shield bash the summoned replica. >Passes through it. >Fukin weird shit. I bash it again. >This time it passes through my shield and enters the Necromancer. >Necromancer gasps, eyes glowing blue as she starts floating. >Fukin weird shit again. I smash a glass-cage which had a small golden shield in it. Priest goes wide-eyed >Bash Necromancer with it. >DM looks at me worryingly. >uhm. Roll a. Just roll a D20 >Nat 20 >I bash our Necromancer so hard that the god of magic that was bonding with her body got blasted out. >Barbarian seeing this grabs his axe and before he swings for the God currently lying on the ground the priest begs him to stop. Barbarian decapitates a god. DM now looking worried. >God's body goes limp as it turns to blue smoke. >Smoke entering the mouth and nose of our Necromancer. >Ah shit. >Necromancer throws up while coughing as black smoke pours out of her. Fuck it >I bash her with my new fancy shield. >Knock her out. >PROBLEM SOLVED! >God merges with Necromancer >God is weakened. >Necromancer wins the mental battle for control of her body. >Necromancer is now a God. >Wait, Necromancer is now a God? >Oh shit. >Necromancer hears pleading voices calling out for help >THE DEMON GOD HAS APPEARED, DO YOU HAVE A BODY YET! Anyway. That's how we started our new campaign! Necromancer trying to cope with UNLIMITED COSMIC POWER! Barbarian not noticing the dagger in his back for 3 days and Me still trying to remove my helmet.

Cela dit, il na nul besoin de durer plus longtemps car, même en y mettant la meilleure volonté du monde, ce film absurde met quand même assez mal à laise très vite. Le daim musique. Le daim film complet. By far, his weakest effort to date. I love. his previous movies. Reality" is one of my all time faves, with 10/10 rating, and others are strong 9/10, but this fell flat on me. I did't laugh once. A major letdown for me. Without any real character development, motivations or purpose. The entire premise of a guys obsession for a jacket feels extremely forced. Watching, I always felt conscious of the scriptwriting process. All plot turns felt very forced. It honestly seemed like Quentin had taken a random bizarre idea, and tried to brainstorm ways to make it work across genres, in an arthouse package.
Its an offbeat mixed genre cocktail that seems to suffer from an identity crisis. Comedy, Horror, drama, arthouse - but in trying to cross all genres just fails to have anything compelling about it. Not funny, clever, deep or exciting in anyway unfortunately.
Dupieux has a strong visual style, the cinematography is well done. and Dujardin is excellent at whatever he touches, but he shouldn't have touched this script. The whole movie really missed the mark for me.
I give it 5/10 because on paper it has everything I like. a strong visual style, quirky premise and fantastic lead man in Jean Dujardin. but unfortunately putting all the elements together was the most disappointing flaw for me.
I feel that watching "bad" movies can often be the most educational in evolving as a filmmaker and I look forward to see what Dupieux learns from his mistakes in this below average film.

You were so nice to him Wendy, go you! Being all civilized. Fucking right, almost done with work and goose uploads part 3, thanks brother. Viola was in the movie for exactly two scenes, which make a total of eleven minutes. We don't even know the name of her character, she's just Mrs. Miller. Yet, with just that, she delivered the most powerful scene of the movie. Her eyes, her mannerisms, everything just tells a crystal clear story. Like every character in this brilliantly written movie, there is a lot of mystery to her, and what we're shown just draws us in even more. Before watching the movie I thought it was ridiculous they'd give a nomination to someone with so little screentime, but I was proved wrong. Every aspiring actor out there should take note from these 2. This is acting at it's finest.

INGREDIENTES PARA LA MACERACIÓN BÁSICA ¼ de taza de almendras peladas y picaditas (aprox. 30 gramos) ¼ de taza de avellanas peladas y picaditas ( 30 gramos. Subsituí por macadamia y piñones) ¼ taza de nueces picaditas, aprox. 30 gramos) ¼ de taza de cáscara de naranja confitada (abrillantada) picadita, aprox. 30 gramos. Utilicé naranja confitada casera) ¼ de taza de cáscara de cidra confitada (abrillantada) picadita, unos 30 gramos ( No le he puesto) ½ taza de ciruelas pasas sin semillas, picaditas, unos 50 gramos. Usé uvas pasas y también coloqué 30 grs. de arándanos secos) 2 cucharadas de vainilla ( Coloqué 1 cucharada de vainilla) ¼ cucharadita de clavo de especie, molido; ¼ cucharadita de canela molida; ¼ de cucharadita de nuez moscada rallada ¼ de cucharadita de jengibre fresco rallado ó 1/8 de cucharadita si es en polvo ½ cucharadita de ralladura de naranja ½ cucharadita de ralladura de limón 1 taza de cerveza negra ( También se puede usar una mezcla de licores, brandy, vino dulce, incluso he usado un poco de licor de cereza casero) ½ taza de ron ¼ taza de melaza de papelón negro (panela o azúcar morena) PARA LA TORTA: 500 gramos, 2 tazas aprox. de la maceración preparada previamente 175 gramos (1½ barras) de mantequilla con sal 75 grs. de chocolate de taza ( Utilicé chocolate oscuro 53, 7% cacao) 1/4 cucharadita de sal 1 2/3 taza de azúcar ( aprox. 330 gramos. Mezclé azúcar blanca y azúcar moscabada en igual proporción) 5 huevos 2 tazas de harina  ( aprox. 320 gramos en base a tasas de 250ml de capacidad) 1 cucharadita de polvo de hornear tipo Royal PREPARACIÓN DE LA MACERACIÓN Algunos de los ingredientes de la maceración Preparando la maceración Después del tiempo de maceración (Esta de la foto tiene justo un año) Vierta todos los ingredientes dentro de un envase de vidrio que pueda tapar, se recomienda un mínimo de dos semanas a dos meses  de anticipación. Cuanto más tiempo mejor. En mi caso, la he dejado un año. Revuelva ligeramente de vez en cuando durante este tiempo, y agregue ron, vino, brandy o cerveza negra, o en mi caso licor de cereza casero) si observa que la mezcla está seca. ELABORACION DE LA TORTA 1. Unas 3 horas antes de comenzar la preparación de la torta, se saca la maceración del refrigerador para que adquiera la temperatura ambiente. 2. Se enmantequilla y enharina un molde anular de unos 25 centímetros de diámetro exterior y unos 8 centímetros de profundidad, o un molde rectangular de unos 22 x 12 x 8 centímetros, o uno redondo. A su gusto.  Prefiero forrar el molde con papel sulfurizado. 3. Derretir el chocolate en baño de maría y dejar enfriar un poco. 4. En el recipiente de una batidora eléctrica se ponen la mantequilla y la sal y se bate hasta tener consistencia de crema. 5. Siempre batiendo se agrega el azúcar y se continúa batiendo unos 5 minutos. 6. Se agregan los huevos, uno a uno, batiendo muy bien después de cada adición, y al final el chocolate derretido,  y se bate por unos minutos más hasta que esté bien integrado. 7. Por último, sin batir, con movimientos envolventes, se agregan alternadamente, por partes, la harina cernida con el polvo de hornear y la maceración de frutas, terminando con la harina. Se mezcla bien y se vierte en el molde. 8. Llevar a horno precalentado a 190 C por 50 minutos o hasta que al introducirle un palillo, salga seco. Puede ser necesario cubrir el molde al final, para que la torta no se dore demasiado por encima. 9. Sacar del horno, dejar reposar unos minutos, y todavía caliente se saca la torta del molde. 10. Desde ese momento y hasta el día que se consuma, se le rocía o pincela  vino o ron, o si ha quedado un poco del líquido de la maceración, para que se mantenga suave y aromática. Yo he rociado mi licor casero de cereza. 11. Decorar al gusto. ( Es preferible no consumirla de inmediato, si no al tercer o cuarto día de hecha o más tiempo, cuando los sabores se han intensificado. ) Se puede guardar en latas o bien envuelta en papel de aluminio o celofán a temperatura ambiente hasta por 1 o dos meses. Sólo recuerde rociar con licor de vez en cuando. Es un lindo regalo de Navidad en una lata decorada con diseños navideños o envuelta en papel celofán amarrada con un lazo. Es una torta compacta, suave y jugosa Es deliciosa sola para acompañar un café o té, y si gusta puede servirla con una bola de helado de vainilla.

Y así, Negra navidad ( Black Christmas) primera película de Blumhouse que dirige una mujer ( Sophia Takal) aborda el complicado, muchas veces incómodo, pero necesario tema del #MeToo en el cine. La película es una reinterpretación de la obra homónima canadiense de 1974 dirigida por Bob Clark y escrita por Roy Moore. En ella se abordaba el tema del derecho de la mujer sobre abortar -mi cuerpo, mi decisión- todo esto mientras un asesino se dedicaba matar a las estudiantes del campus. La historia para este segundo remake (hubo uno en 2006) tiene a Riley (Imogen Poots) quien tres años atrás fuera violada por un compañero, pero que sigue libre sin ningún tipo de repercusión. Sólo se cambió de colegio y asunto arreglado. Decir que la película ha dividido al público es ser condescendiente. Negra navidad principalmente ha sido destazada por crítica y audiencia por igual. Además de dirigir, Sophia Takal escribe junto con la guionista April Wolfe una historia que se sube a la conversación sobre la masculinidad tóxica, los privilegios masculinos y la unión de las mujeres; y de ahí a que no haya sido bien recibida porque ¿quién quiere ir al cine a despejarse de los temas que se ven en noticieros y redes sociales sólo para encontrarse con que ahí también los tocan? El problema no es el tema, el problema es que no nos gusta que un género como el slasher también nos señale a los hombres lo que está mal con nuestro comportamiento. Claro que el género slasher tiene a sus protagonistas femeninos fuertes, pero en casi todos estos casos, su fuerza proviene de las circunstancias de la amenaza del asesino, ahí están Laurie ( Halloween) Sally ( La masacre de Texas) Nancy ( Pesadilla en la calle del Infierno) o más recientemente Sidney ( Scream) en el caso de Negra Navidad Riley debe sacar fuerzas de algo más profundo que sólo un simple asesino: debe enfrentarse y despertar del letargo que le ha dejado una violación. En su anterior película, Always Shine, Takal ya había abordado la dinámica y relación entre mujeres, en este caso dos actrices que se van a una cabaña a leer el guion de una película y la tensión que va creciendo entre ellas. En Black Christmas presenta a un grupo de mujeres que se une, pero también tienen diferentes puntos de vista sobre cómo deben actuar, sobre cómo deben ser feministas. “Mejor me voy porque cuando empiezan a hablar de estos temas se pone muy pesado el ambiente”, dice precisamente una chica. Las mujeres entre sí piensan de forma diferente sobre cómo llevar el tema del acoso, sin embargo, saben que es necesario hacer algo. Pero mientras la conversación sobre la masculinidad tóxica, acoso y violencia hacia la mujer se aborda de forma actualizada y justa, la ejecución de la película en términos de cinta de terror se queda corta, es torpe y ésa es principalmente su falla: carece de momentos netamente aterradores -a lo mucho un fugaz homenaje a la muerte más icónica de El exorcista 3. Hacia su último acto se parece más una película de acción que un slasher, lo que resulta confuso. El problema viene en la premura con la que Blumhouse le pidió a Takal y Wolfe el guion en enero de este 2019, les dijeron que necesitaban comenzar a filmar en junio para estrenar en diciembre, la producción duró un mes y la posproducción llevaría entonces unos tres meses. Las realizadoras tenían -y eso se ve en pantalla- muy claro el mensaje que querían llevar, sin embargo su ejecución quedó a deber. Es obvio y refrescante ver una película slasher con tema de perspectiva de género dirigido y escrito por mujeres, porque aquí no hay final girls donde sólo una sobrevive tras sacar fuerza de donde sea que la saquen las mujeres dirigidas por hombres, aquí más que final girls serían survival girls, ya sea de acoso, violación, misoginia, machismo o incluso micromachismo, todas ellas están juntas en este viaje, y así son más poderosas. Al principio de la película una de ellas compara a sus amigas con hormigas “a las hormigas no puedes matarlas, porque son extensiones de las otras, juntas son más fuertes”. Sin dudarlo, dentro de algunos años Negra Navidad será mencionada como aquellas primeras películas de género que abordaron el tema del #MeToo; hoy le toca la crucifixión, hoy le toca el señalamiento y la crítica, pero al menos logró incomodar, al menos logró no pasar desapercibida como un slasher genérico sin propuesta, y no hay nada mejor que incomodar, no hay nada mejor que quemar todo y empezar de nuevo. This film was very fun and enjoyable. I think people dislike anything with female leads these days, or anything that even touches on feminism. This film hits on a sore spot clearly - date rape, girls being raped on campuses, and the police not believing them. I guess this made people uncomfortable. It was good - made it's point. I fully enjoyed it and so did everyone else in that cinema. It's a slasher film - not a philosophical one so just do not expect too much from it. Also, embrace women trying to have their voice heard, it's almost 2020! I recommend it fully. Go with an open mind and enjoy it. Well done ladies - you did a great job.

Heres the ultimate indication of just how good Schreck is here: Shadow of the Vampire, a 2000 film starring Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich, suggested that Max Schreck was an actual vampire. That film is, of course, a work of fiction, but lets just say this: I would never have wanted to be alone in a dark alley with Schreck to find out. 12) Of Human Bondage The best adaptation of W. Somerset Maughams novel on screen, 1934s Of Human Bondage is a must for fans of Bette Davis (read: Kim Carnes listeners, gay men, old ladies. This was Daviss breakout role and her very first Oscar nomination (prior to her consecutive wins for Dangerous and Jezebel) for a performance that has nothing to do with S&M—not that theres anything wrong with that. Davis plays Mildred, the manipulative, low-class object of Philip Careys (Leslie Howard) affections, and owns every scene shes in—especially in a bedroom confrontation where she destroys all of Philips things and storms out. Even when shes playing basically the worst person on Earth, Bette Davis makes it look good. 13) Plan 9 From Outer Space This might be an unpopular opinion, but for as “bad” as Ed Wood Jr. s movies are—hes often hailed as the worst director in film history—theres a certain demented brilliance to them. For the mind-numbing mundanity of Glen or Glenda, the film features an unforgettably bizarre segment of Bela Lugosi (who is God, maybe. pulling the strings of humanity. Plan 9 From Outer Space features a now iconic image of poorly made spaceships—that are made out of pie plates or hubcaps, depending on who you ask—hovering languidly over Los Angeles. Not a single scene or plot development in this movie makes any sense—and the dialogue is famously atrocious—but it appears to unfold over its weird dream logic. 14)  The Last Man on Earth Richard Mathesons I Am Legend is one of the great stories still in need of a worthy film adaptation. Unfortunately this 1964 attempt comes up short. But its an interesting failure. Vincent Price stars as Dr. Robert Morgan, the (seemingly) last human alive amidst a world full of vampires. Matheson wrote the script, but asked to be credited by a pseudonym when he became displeased with the final product. But whether youre a casual film fan or a diehard cinephile, Georges Méliès 15-minute groundbreaking sci-fi work should be watched by everyone at least once—and its easy to now that the full movie is free on YouTube. A Trip to the Moon is so iconic that youve surely seen its most famous image before whether you knew where it came from or not. Scorsese fans will also be familiar with Méliès from how prominently he figures into 2011s Hugo. — Chris Osterndorf 16) Reefer Madness Reefer Madness holds a rare distinction: It might be the first so-bad-its-good movie to become a hit precisely because of its delicious awfulness. Originally filmed as a morality play about the dangers of drug addiction, Reefer Madness (which was also known as Tell Your Children, Doped Youth, and Love Madness) is so over-the-top that it may have convinced more young people to try drugs than stay off them. In one famous scene, a man smoking marijuana demands that his girlfriend play him a tune on the piano, yelling: “Faster, play faster! ” The movie about a “new and deadly menace lurking behind closed doors! ” would become a staple of the midnight movie circuit in the 1970s, as well as a frequent target of parodies. The most famous is Reefer Madness: The Musical, a tongue-in-cheek remake starring Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming, and Neve Campbell. It aired in 2007 on Showtime. 17) The Strange Love of Martha Ivers Barbara Stanwyck is a national treasure. But as Billy Wilders Double Indemnity proved, the versatile actress is never better than when shes bad: Stanwyck added to her roster of femme fatales with the impeccable The Strange Love of Martha Ivers —about a young girl, Martha (Stanwyck) who inadvertently kills her domineering aunt. Years later, Martha ends up in a loveless marriage with the boy (Kirk Douglas, in his first film role) who helped corroborate her story. But as the lovers find out, the past will come back to haunt them. 18) My Favorite Brunette Film noir parodies have always been a favorite of comedy filmmakers. Theres High Anxiety, Mel Brooks inspired riff on Hitchcock films like Vertigo and The Birds, while the Steve Martin-starring Dead Men Dont Wear Plaid lampooned The Big Sleep, White Heat, and The Postman Always Rings Twice. Taking time off from his partnership with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope made My Favorite Brunette, both a sendup and a love letter to gumshoes, fast-talking dames, and the dirty deeds that come between them. Directed by Elliott Nugent, My Favorite Brunette is about a wannabe private eye (hes actually a baby photographer) who dreams of being the next Mike Hammer or Philip Marlowe. He gets his chance when an enigmatic woman mistakes him for a detective and hires him for his first—and probably last—job. My Favorite Brunette is by no means a masterpiece, but its a winning diversion. 19) White Zombie For horror movie buffs, White Zombie is unmissable. Before George Romero and The Walking Dead, this 1932 film kickstarted the zombie movie genre. Although White Zombie was very negatively reviewed upon its release (one critic called it “an unintentional and often hilarious comedy”) the early independent feature—set in Haiti—has an eerie hypnotic pull. Bela Lugosi plays a local voodoo master who transforms a visiting American woman (Madge Bellamy) into a zombie by putting her into a mysterious trance. White Zombie has none of the undead brain-eaters fans would come to associate with the generic form, but if you can get past the hammy overacting, the film succeeds on its own charms. It would become such a cult hit in the U. S. that White Zombie even became a favorite of the Nazi Party, one of the few American films that was given the Third Reichs seal of approval. However, if you watch it in black-and-white, you can focus not on how it looks but how it sounds. Ben Hecht, then the hottest screenwriter in Tinseltown, amassed a dream team of writers to pen the screenplay, including Budd Schulberg ( On the Waterfront) and Dorothy Parker, the acid-tongued queen of the Algonquin Round Table. The incomparable Carole Lombard plays Hazel Flagg, who has received good news: Shes not dying of radium poisoning. The problem is that a struggling newspaper wants to make the “doomed girl” into a media sensation. Hazel decides to go along with it anyway. After all, how could she pass up an opportunity like that, radium or no radium? 21) The Immigrant No relation to the Marion Cotillard-Joaquin Phoenix melodrama, The Immigrant is yet another highlight in multi-hyphenate Charlie Chaplins celebrated career as an actor, writer, and director. Those unfamiliar with Chaplins filmography would be better advised to start with classic like The Gold Rush, Modern Times, and City Lights (the latter landed on AFIs list of the top 10 greatest movies ever made. More experienced fans of the Little Tramp, however, should check out this underrated short film. In The Immigrant, Chaplin explores the harsh realities facing workers immigrating to America in the 1910s through a wry comic lens. Just 22 minutes long, it features some of the early cinematic auteurs most breathless physical comedy: In a famous dining hall sequence, the Tramp finds out what really happens to passengers on board when the boat is a-rocking. 22) Glen or Glenda Like just about every movie Ed Wood, Jr. ever made, Glen or Glenda is both brilliantly transgressive and unbelievably terrible. Two years after Christine Jorgensen became the first transgender woman to transition in the public eye, Woods groundbreaking 1953 feature explores the difficulties of being trans in pre-Stonewall America. The film opens after Patricia, a transgender woman, has taken her own life, citing years of harassment. Woods film, which was autobiographical, uses Patricias story as a backdrop for Glens struggle for acceptance: Like Patricia, Glen enjoys wearing womens clothing. Hes terrified his girlfriend will find out. Glen or Glenda (originally titled I Changed My Sex. would be a masterpiece if Wood knew how to make a movie. Random shots of Bela Lugosi—who was close friends with Wood—were interspersed into the action apropos of nothing, in which Lugosi yells, “Pull the strings! ” Note: For a pretty good biopic about Wood, often referred to as the “worst director ever, ” check out Tim Burtons great Ed Wood, which memorably parodies Glen or Glenda. 23)  People Will Talk This Joseph L. Mankiewicz dramedy tracks the parallel stories of a medical school instructor and one of his students. Cary Grant stars as Dr. Noah Praetorius, who ends up on trial for misconduct over dubious accusations. Meanwhile, one of Praetorius students, Deborah (Jeanne Crain) has become pregnant and doesnt know what to do. As their stories overlap and intertwine, Praetorius and Deborah develop feelings for each other. Like the latter, Scarlet Street stars Edward G. Robinson ( Double Indemnity) Dan Duryea, and Joan Bennett. As in their previous feature, Robinson plays a man in a midlife crisis who falls in love with an unattainable young woman (Bennett. Theres a catch: Shes a femme fatale and hes her mark. The thing is, though, theyre conning each other—hes led her to believe that hes a wealthy painter, despite the fact that hes just an amateur artist. 25) The Lodger Those who dismiss The Lodger as nothing but a piece of film trivia are really missing out. The Lodger was Alfred Hitchcocks first full-length feature film, released in 1927 with the subtitle “A Story of the London Fog. ” The British masters debut effort illustrates many of the thematic obsessions that would consume his later work (especially his complicated relationship with law enforcement. The Lodger offers the classic “wrong man” narrative Hitch would make his name on: Jonathan (Ivor Novello) rents a room from an elderly couple. Days earlier, however, a young woman was murdered by “The Avenger, ” a serial killer overly based on Jack the Ripper. But if the plot is fairly simple, the visuals make up for it; The Lodger is extraordinarily striking for the period, suggesting the brilliant stylist its creator would become. 26)  A Star Is Born Your favorite version of A Star Is Born is perhaps a matter of taste. Georges Cukors What Price Hollywood? a critical look at the costs of fame, has been remade three times. The most famous (as well as infamous) is Barbra Streisands 1976 ode to opulence—about a washed-up rock & roll star (Kris Kristofferson) and the diva who tries to save him from self-destruction (Streisand, of course. Theres also the 1952 edition with Judy Garland, also directed by Cukor. But no with disrespect to Judy, youd be advised to start with the Janet Gaynor version. Featuring a sly screenplay by Dorothy Parker, the film pulls no punches: a shy North Dakota farmgirl lives her dreams of Hollywood stardom, only to watch it all crumble around her. For Parker, a respected New York critic who struggled to adapt to L. A. artifice, it was a subject she knew well. 27) Meet John Doe Frank Capra made his name on films like It Happened One Night and Its a Wonderful Life —buoyant films about the goodness of the human spirit. But it is one of the great directors bleakest works that resonates most powerfully today. Jaded newspaper reporter Ann Mitchell (Barbara Stanwyck) invents a character, the eponymous John Doe, who symbolizes the forgotten working man, fed up with modern society. In an open letter, John Doe implores Americans to be kinder and more gracious to each other. Hes such a hit that the paper hires an out-of-work baseball player (Gary Cooper) to portray him, until John Does popularity is exploited by political demagogues. Its a bleak satire with uncanny echoes of Donald Trump, a must-see for anyone terrified about the next four years. 28)  Operation Petticoat Megastars (and mega-hunks) Cary Grant and Tony Curtis take the leads in this 1959 World War II comedy, which is perhaps best known for its setting: Aboard a giant pink submarine called the Sea Tiger. U. Navy admiral Matt Sherman (Grant) recalls in flashbacks the time he spent aboard the Sea Tiger during the first days of U. involvement during WWII. Despite having zero submarine experience, Lieutenant Holden (Curtis) joins Sherman for a wild, humorous, action-packed romp across the seas, eventually picking up several stranded Army nurses (Dina Merill, Joan OBrien) adding some sexual tension and silly romance to a movie mostly about Navy men on a beaten-down submarine. 29) Rashomon Akira Kurosawas Rashomon is the best kind of film homework. Its a film works you over emotionally and tests the audiences ability to piece together stories and see through misdirection. Its about a group of people all telling their versions of a murder, all while trying to uncover the truth. The story grows more complex and rich with each iteration. Its a fascinating use of perspective and editing, and watching a master like Kurosawa work is always a treat. — Eddie Strait 30) Gullivers Travels Following on the heels of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Gullivers Travels was the second animated film produced in America. The tale of Gulliver and his expeditions is something of a holiday staple, or at least it was. Either way, it doesnt have to be the holiday season to justify watching it. Whether the movie works for you or not, its worth checking out as a historical artifact at the very least. — E. S. 31) Lady Frankenstein An Italian movie that is similar in aesthetic to the films coming from Hammer Studios in the late 60s and early seventies. While Lady Frankenstein isnt particularly great, it is an informative experience. Its interesting to see how a different culture takes on the story of Frankenstein. It stars Joseph Cotton, of The Third Man fame, as Baron Frankenstein. The movie gets pretty crazy once the bodies start piling up. 32) Royal Wedding This MGM musical from 1951 stars Fred Astaire and Jane Powell as siblings looking to take their successful Broadway show across the pond. The movie delivers classic Astaire dance numbers that will delight longtime fans and first-time viewers alike. Royal Wedding was nominated for an Academy Award for one of its songs, so the music is on par with the dancing. Its not easy to find for streaming or rental, so having it only a click away will make you dance with joy. 33) Silent Night, Bloody Night Timeless Classic Films/YouTube This pre-slasher slasher revolves around a series of Christmas Eve murders and is set in the 1950s. This time out Crosby and Hope play unemployed entertainers who end up diving for treasure, falling in love with the same princess (Lamour) failing to marry her but successfully (and unintentionally) marrying each other, as the trio tries to flee Bali with the treasure. Theres a lot crammed into Balis 90-minute runtime. The movie also features cameos by Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, and Jane Russell. Road to Bali is a raucous adventure and a crowd-pleaser. S. 38) Naked Alibi The 1950s is a treasure trove of pulpy, glorious noir. Naked Alibi is a forgotten gem from the era about a fired police officer chasing down the man who murdered police officers. The hunt leads Joe Conroy (Sterling Hayden) down to Mexico where he meets Marianna (noir goddess Gloria Grahame) and, together, the pair hatch a plan to catch Al Willis (Gene Barry. While the men drive the engine of the story, its Grahame who injects life into it. S. 39) McLintock! Grandfathers and other men of a certain age everywhere will be delighted to know that John Wayne movies are available on YouTube. Wayne tackles the Bard in this western riff on The Taming of the Shrew. G. McLintock (Wayne) has to navigate his estranged wife, local racial tension, among other things. In todays climate, McLintock! is woefully un-PC, and the cringe factor is high. But this is one of Waynes most popular films and is worth considering, warts and all. S. Vincent Price stars as Simon, a man who has succumbed to the horla. His diary is read posthumously, and the movie flashes back to tell the story of Simons downfall. Its creepy and its Vincent Price, and that makes it worth a watch. S. 41) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde This silent film adaptation on Robert Louis Stevensons The Strange Case of Dr. Hyde is one of three Dr. Jekyll films released in 1920. John Barrymore starred in the titular roles, and his performance is the strongest aspect of the film.
